An individual who laced sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the location in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the defendant proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.

The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities again.

She said Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
